The body of missing former Brighton student Amelia Bambridge has been formally identified by her heartbroken brother Harry Bambridge.
Amelia’s body was found 30 miles out to sea after the former BHASVIC student went missing in Cambodia just over a week ago.
Mr Bambridge, a former Brighton University student, said on Facebook: “I’ve just seen her and I can confirm it’s my little sister Amelia.
“I’m so sorry to all her friends and family. There’s nothing more I wanted then to bring her back alive and I really fucking tried.
“And I’m sorry to you Amelia Bambridge. The round is on me when we meet again in Heaven.”
Shortly afterwards Amelia’s sister Sharon Schultes said on Facebook: “I have had the most horrific confirmation that my sister Amelia Bambridge was found and she is no longer with us.
“It breaks my heart to let all my close family and friends know the horrendous outcome that we didn’t want.
“Now we have to get our Amelia back home to England so we can lay her beautiful soul to rest and to remember the wonderful life she lived.
“Thank you for all the support we’ve had. Please continue to do all you can so we can get all our family home with Amelia safely.”
Amelia, 21, from Worthing, who had been backpacking, was last seen at a beach party on the Cambodian island of Koh Rong on Wednesday 23 October.
She was reported missing the next day when she failed to check out of her hostel – and her purple rucksack was found, with her purse, phone and bank cards still inside.
Amelia’s parents and brother joined the search but earlier today (Thursday 31 October) her body was found 30 miles from the island, towards Thailand.
Cambodian officials said that Amelia’s body had been taken to Sihanoukville on the mainland for a post-mortem examination.
