Seven jobs are to go at Brighton and Hove’s daily newspaper The Argus.
Six of the posts are news sub-editors and one is the post of Worthing reporter, held by Paul Holden, who also edits an Argus offshoot called The Sentinel.
A formal consultation is believed to have begun yesterday on a proposal to move the news subbing function to Southampton.
The Argus’s printing operation moved there last year from its Hollingbury headquarters at the cost of about 20 jobs.
The subbing switch will lead to the creation of three jobs in Southampton.
No one from Newsquest (Sussex) – the owner of The Argus – was available for comment last night.
