Police are warning drivers in Brighton to avoid North Street as the road has been closed due to it beginning to collapse.
The road started to break up at around 2.20pm today (Wednesday 29 December).
The westbound carriageway of North Street currently remains open. However, the road eastbound has been closed from the junction with Queen’s Road to Castle Square and the junction with the Old Steine.
Traffic is currently being diverted from travelling eastbound from the Clock Tower. Windsor Street to the junction with Church Street is currently closed. Traffic in Portland Street is currently being directed southbound.
A police spokesman said: “Some traffic disruption in the area is anticipated.
“Sussex Police thanks motorists and visitors to Brighton for their patience while we work with the Highways Agency to resolve the problem and help to keep traffic moving in the city.”
