Brighton Pride given permission to party in Preston Park

Pride has been given landlord’s consent to stage the annual event in Preston Park this summer.

Questions were raised after the park was left in a mess last year about whether a different location should be found, such as Madeira Drive.

Brighton and Hove City Council has given conditional approval subject to a detailed operational event plan being drawn up in consultation with council officers and the emergency services.

Pride’s organisers will now have to work with Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The operational event plan will cover health and safety, fire safety, crowd management, the clean-up, transport and medical plans.

It has to be signed off by the City Safety Advisory Group.

Councillor David Smith, the council’s cabinet member for culture, said: “We are delighted to be involved in helping to make Pride 2011 happen, making sure it will be a fantastic event for the community.”

The annual Pride parade and party is due to take place on Saturday 13 August.
