A kind-hearted pensioner had his wallet and some cash stolen from his Brighton home after he let a stranger in to use his toilet.
The 72-year-old victim, who lives in Montague Street, Kemp Town, was befriended by the conman outside his flat.
Sussex Police urged residents to be careful about allowing people to enter their homes.
The thief was described as a white man in his forties, 5ft 5in tall, of slim build, clean shaven and with very short dark hair.
The theft happened at about 4pm last Thursday (17 March).
Detective Sergeant Duncan Elliott said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has seen this man in the area.
“People like this all too often prey upon the elderly.
“Always be careful about who you let into your home.
“If in doubt, keep them out, and let us know via 999 if necessary.”
* A 44-year-old man has been arrested and released on police bail for further inquiries.
