An elderly woman who died in a house fire in Peacehaven on Monday (4 April) has been named as 88-year-old Jean Horton.
Mrs Horton died at her home in Arundel Road Central with her pet cat at lunchtime on Monday.
An inquest into her death has been opened and adjourned after post-mortem tests were carried out yesterday.
The initial findings do not suggest that Mrs Horton’s death was suspicious.
Further tests will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.
Investigators from East Sussex Fire and Rescue and Sussex Police believe that the blaze may have been started by a cigarette or a lighter.
Three crews from Brighton, Roedean and Newhaven tackled the fire.
