A man was knocked unconscious during a suspected robbery in the centre of Brighton this lunchtime (Thursday 19 May).
Two suspects fled from the scene – outside the Brighton University building in Grand Parade – at about 1.30pm.
They made off in the direction of St Peter’s Church.
Sussex Police said that one of the suspects – a 45-year-old man from Brighton – had been arrested near by at just after 1.40pm.
One witness said there were seven police cars and three ambulances at the scene.
Sussex Police said that a passing ambulance crew stopped to help the victim, a 36-year-old man from Surrey.
The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he remains in a serious condition.
