Former Brighton councillor and alderman John Hutchinson died this week.

Mr Hutchinson represented Patcham on Brighton Borough Council from 1979 for 18 years until it merged with Hove.

The new Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Anne Meadows, reported the former Conservative councillor’s death at a special meeting of Brighton and Hove City Council yesterday (Thursday 26 May).

A minute’s silence was observed for Mr Hutchinson who died the previous day.

One of the current councillors for Patcham, Conservative opposition leader Geoffrey Theobald, said: “John Hutchinson was a great friend and a great servant of the people of Patcham.

“He was very hard working and he will be missed very much by all who knew him.”
