Fire crews are throwing themselves off one of Brighton’s landmark buildings today to raise money to help children with unknown genetic conditions.
Green Watch from Hove Fire Station, in English Close, and retained crews from Newhaven are taking part in a sponsored abseil.
The East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews are abseiling 100ft down the Cockcroft Building, in Lewes Road, part of the Moulsecoomb campus of Brighton University.
They are raising money for Harry’s Wish which was set up in memory of Harry Thomas Baker who was born prematurely and died at 30 months old.
He suffered from an unknown genetic condition characterised by seizures, delayed development and cleft palate
The fire crews have set themselves fundraising challenges to raise money in memory of Harry.
The money that they raise supports the work of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and the Evelina Children’s Hospital, which is part of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London.
The crews have been charging members of the public £20 to take part today.
Just over a week ago they cycled from the Royal Sussex County Hospital – where the Trevor Mann Baby Unit is based – to the Evelina Children’s Hospital and back again.
So far they’ve raised £8,000 for Harry’s Wish.
