A fire in a basement flat in Hove this afternoon is being treated as arson.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue crews spent about 40 minutes tackling the fire at the YMCA property in Goldstone Villas.
The flat is in the block next to the old Woolworths in Blatchington Road and by the junction with ClarendonVillas.
Sussex Police said that it was helping to investigate the cause of the fire which was reported at about 4pm.
Residents were evacuated as three fire crews turned out to deal with the blaze.
Separately, a man was arrested for a public order offence at the scene after an angry outburst while the flats were still cordoned off.
