IPCC rules out inquiry into Brighton man's fall

A police watchdog said that it would not be investigating the circumstances that preceded a man falling on to a railway line in Brighton last week.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said that it had no concerns around the actions of officers from Sussex Police who dealt with the man before he fell.

Police were called to Brighton railway station last Wednesday morning (21 March) after the 43-year-old man fell from Highcroft Villas above the railway line.

About an hour before his fall, police had been called to Highcroft Villas where a man in the street appeared to be confused.

Officers spoke to the man, who lives near by, and left him in the care of his brother.

As a result of this earlier contact, Sussex Police referred the incident to the IPCC.

Yesterday (Monday 26 March) the IPCC said that it would not be looking into the matter.

There are not believed to be suspicious circumstances or any third party involvement in the incident.

The man was reported to be in a stable condition and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
