Question Time panel for Brighton ignores the Greens

The panel for the BBC television programme Question Time will not include any Green Party politicians when it is filmed in Brighton next week.

The first show in the new series is due to be recorded at St Bartholomew’s Church in Ann Street, Brighton, on Thursday (27 September).

The omission comes even though the programme is being recorded in the city served by the country’s only Green-run council.

And in the constituency of the country’s only Green MP, Caroline Lucas, although some have criticised the show’s producers for inviting her to appear too often in the past few years.

The recording is due to take place as the Liberal Democrat party conference leaves town.

But one of the most senior Lib Dems in the government is expected to be on the panel.

The line-up is expected to include

  • Danny Alexander, the Lib Dem Chief Secretary to the Treasury
  • Harriet Harman, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party
  • Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg
  • TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp
  • Mehdi Hasan, the political director of the Huffington Post website, or Brighton comedian Steve Coogan

The panel will be chaired by veteran broadcaster David Dimbleby, who lives just outside Polegate.

Production company Mentorn, which makes Question Time, has asked audience members to come up with two provocative and topical questions.

They have been asked to arrive by 6.30pm and are expected to leave at about 9.30pm, with the show being broadcast on BBC1 just over an hour later after the news.

The acoustics in there are grim. Hope they mike up well and put speakers up all the way to the back.

Valerie, I notice that you have colour coded the Question roster chart. While I appreciate the creative effort that has gone into this roster, the light salmon colour you have chosen for my name is very effeminate. While I am sure you have not done this on purpose and are not inferring anything, I would appreciate you rectifying this immediately. Would it be possible to swap colours with Chris Cooke as he has quite a nice dusty blue?.

    Thankyou, Ghost

Ghost, what were you on when commenting here? “Question roster” ???? What’s that about? “light salmon”….Chris Cooke…dusty blue”..

None of this means a thing to me. Why is my name on this comment of yours? Can you clear up this mystery please?

Hi Val, You raise a valid and not at all uninteresting point. Perhaps you could construct some kind of chart?. A roster system would enable us to work in an environment free of stupid Questions from ‘Veggie Nudgers’and put an end to any confusion regarding who the question responsibility lies with…I’m there selling my organic edible (yes, edible!) shoe cream. Apparently, it can be used for other purposes such as spreading on toast or as a lip balm..it’s the kiddie!!
