Gusts of up to 60mph are expected to hit Brighton and Hove tomorrow (Thursday 9 May) after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.
The gales could damage trees and affect transport, the official forecaster said.
In its severe weather warning the Met Office said: “Very strong southwesterly winds for the time of year are expected to extend eastwards across much of southern England, parts of the Midlands and much of Wales.
“Gusts of 50mph are likely to develop fairly widely inland with gusts to 60mph along coasts.
“The public should be aware that some disruption to transport is possible along with possible damage to trees.”
The gales are expected to last several hours with the severe weather warning timed from 9am until 9pm tomorrow.
Temperatures will drop and the high winds may last into the small hours of Friday (10 May).
A spell of heavy rain looks likely on Saturday morning (11 May).
