A gang tried to steal a mobile phone from a 13-year-old girl in the Asda superstore car park at Brighton Marina.

Detectives are keen to trace the three girls and two boys who were part of the attempted robbery.

Sussex Police said: “At about 6.20pm on Thursday 9 May the 13-year-old local girl was in the Asda Marina car park in Brighton when she was approached by the group, comprising three girls and two boys, who attempted to steal her mobile phone.

“In the struggle the victim received a small cut to her hand.”

Detective Sergeant Steve French said: “We are particularly keen to speak to a woman jogger who ran past and may have intervened and helped the victim.

“The offenders ran off towards the exit ramp on the north west corner.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the attempted mugging are asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
