Can you hit the right note for Brighton children’s charity?

A Hove singing school is holding a karaoke afternoon for the Brighton children’s charity Rockinghorse.

Vocademy has organised the event at the Brunswick pub in Holland Road, Hove, on Sunday 23 February.

Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton.

The Brunswick and Vocademy have teamed up to hold the karaoke event to help buy them medical equipment to care for local children.

Brighton band the Indie Killers will play, along with other professional acts including teachers and staff from Vocademy.

Under-18s will have the chance to perform on stage with the Indie Killers, singing hits like Firework, Valerie, Moves Like Jagger and I Gotta Feeling.

Singers can sing a song of their choice with a backing track or a guitarist but must book a slot in advance.

Raffle prizes include

  • a free music video shoot with Wildstag Productions,
  • gig tickets for the Brunswick,
  • a free singing lesson at Vocademy,
  • a two-hour evening recording session to a backing track at the Audiobeach studio
  • two hours of free rehearsal time at Monster Studios for a singer or band

Vocademy manager Sam Black said: “We’re so grateful to the Brunswick for donating the hire fee for the event to the Rockinghorse. Every penny we raise will go to such a good cause.

“We’re hoping hundreds of people will come along to sing and listen to their favourite songs.

“Whether you can sing like a star or can’t hit a note, please come along and help support Rockinghorse.”

Charlotte Gough-Cooper, schools and community fundraising manager at Rockinghorse, said: “We are really pleased to be working with Vocademy on this event which will be raising money for Rockinghorse to make life better for children in Sussex.”

The event runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sunday 23 February.

Tickets are free for under-fives, £3 for under-12s and £5 for everyone else but must be bought in advance.

To buy tickets, call 0845 5191765.
