Has your child got a place at a Brighton and Hove primary school?

Hundreds of parents will find out today whether or not their child has got a place at their preferred primary school.

Brighton and Hove City Council will send out emails and letters today to let parents know where their children will be going.

But 169 children will have a further wait as they have not been offered any of their three preferences. This represents 5.9 per cent of applications – up from 4.85 per cent last year.

And fewer children were offered their first preference school –  82.5 per cent compared to 84 per cent last year. This is in part because more children needed places – up from 2,763 in 2013 to  to 2,933 this year.

Pressure on places is especially intense in Hove, where West Hove Infant School has a new form and Davigdor School has been instructed to take an extra 30 pupils this year. Earlier this month, pupils dressed as ninjas to protest about the bulge class.
