Brighton’s universities have given police personal details of dozens of students over the past three years.
Sussex University has provided details for 20 students and Brighton University for 16 students.
The details are revealed in a series of Freedom of Information requests made via the What do they Know website, here and here.
No court orders were required by either university to release the data – instead, police made a formal request under section 29 of the Data Protection Act.
The Brighton University said that it did not know why police had made the requests as they had not specified on the section 29 form.
The Sussex University said while it did hold this information, it was not prepared to release it as doing so could identify the individuals.
The individual who made these requests has made similar requests to universities across the country. Some universities have disclosed many more students’ details, and some far fewer.
I would imagine that the details are of childish, immature brat students who make people’s lives an absolute misery by engaging in anti-social behaviour, and blasting-out loud music late at night.
