A power cut in Kemp Town and Whitehawk has been caused by a fire an an electrical substation in Manor Way, Kemp Town.

The outage initially affected 2,000 people, and 1,700 were without electricity for at least an hour.

UK Power Network engineers restored electricity supplies to 824 customers between 8.49pm and 8.56pm, with another 365 having supplies again at 10.05pm.

At 10.30pm, they were working to restore power to the remaining 510 remaining customers, with the company saying on Twitter it was aiming to have all electricity back on by 1am.

A spokesman said: “UK Power Networks engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power supplies to 1,699 customers in the Manor Way area of Brighton after a fault on the high-voltage electricity distribution network.

“At 7.03pm today (August 6), 2,018 customers lost power. All bar one of the these customers had power again within two minutes but a subsequent connected fault in the area meant another 1,698 customers lost supplies at 7.18pm.

“We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by
this incident.”

Power was restored to some homes at about 8.45pm, but hundreds are still in darkness.

@StrawberryJames You are very welcome. Our guys on site have just started switching some power on so hopefully not too much longer for you.
