The annual 999 Fun Day is being held on Hove Lawns on Sunday (10 August).

Fire crews will show how they rescue people trapped in cars after a crash and there will be police dog displays.

The event brings together the emergency services, including the RNLI Brighton lifeboat, which plans a demo complete with helicopter support.

Sussex Police said: “This event is free to enter and is fun for all the family.

“Brighton and Hove’s emergency services will come together to showcase our skills and equipment to the public and allow you to have ago.

“See police dogs in action, ambulance displays and people rescued from cars by East Sussex Fire and Rescue.

“From a funfair to live demonstrations you will have lots to see and do.

“This year’s event is in support of our friends at the Sussex Heart Charity who provide training and defibrillators across the Sussex.

“Buy a programme at the event to be in with a chance of winning a number of great prizes donated by local businesses including a new mountain bike, a family ride on the Brighton Eye and makeovers from Body Shop to name a few.”

Brighton and Hove’s police commander Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp said: “Events such as the 999 day are a brilliant opportunity to meet local people and show first hand the range of things the team do to keep people safe.

“I look forward to meeting many of our residents and visitors to the city at the event.”

Sussex police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne will also be at the event.

Mrs Bourne said: “I am really looking forward to the 999 Fun Day.

“After Pride last weekend I was reminded of just how vibrant Brighton and Hove events can be.

“This event is a great opportunity for the emergency services to demonstrate what they do best and is always well received and supported by local residents.”

The event will be held on Hove Lawns on Sunday from 11am until 4pm.

Cutting people out of mangled cars? What a curious idea of “fun”! Will they also demonstrate how they kettle fracking protestors, and go undercover to father children by environmental activists?

Sounds good fun! I can’t wait to put a fireman’s helmet on and sit in the fire engine! OK, maybe 40+years past the target age group but we can all have fun can’t we? :-))
