A man was stabbed in the back during a fight with another man in Hove this morning as others tried to break it up.

The air ambulance was called to the scene in Woodland Drive shortly before 11.30am, but the victim was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

A police spokesman said: “At 11.25am on Tuesday (23 September) police were called to a fight between two men outside a house in Woodland Drive, Hove.

“A 29-year old man received a small cut to his back and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital by road ambulance, but was discharged in mid-afternoon. Two stitches were inserted in the wound.

“A 52-year old man was arrested at another address in the same road on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and a knife has been recovered.
“Some other men had been present at the scene, but were trying to break up the fight.
“An air ambulance attended but was not needed. No police helicopter attended.
“The two men are known to each other.”

The stabbing comes days after another in Pavilion Gardens, in which a Brighton man was stabbed in the back, possibly by a knife, in the early hours of Saturday morning. Five boys, two men and a girl have been released on police bail while investigations continue.
