The Hangleton Band has been given £250 from the proceeds of crime.
The money was handed over by Inspector Jon Carter on behalf of the Hove Neighbourhood Policing Team.
The money will be used to purchase a soprano cornet for the long-established brass band which has about 80 members across Brighton and Hove.
Musical director Richard Baker said: “Thank you to Sussex Police for presenting us with the cheque, which is absolutely marvellous and will help us continue to give more opportunities to young people to get involved with music.”
Inspector Carter said: “I’m delighted to present this cheque to Hangleton Band and to have had the pleasure of listening to an excellent performance during the band’s rehearsal as part of the presentation.”
The donation comes from the Police Property Act Fund which is made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of the court and then sold.
