A 75-year-old Hove man has been released from custody by Sussex Police after his wife was found to have died from natural causes.
The pensioner was arrested after the death of his 67-year-old wife at their home in Tredcroft Road, Hove, late on Wednesday night (28 January).
The couple were named locally as Abdul Khaliq Qureshi and Memona Hashimalvi.
Mr Qureshi is a director of the Brighton Mosque and Muslim Community Centre, also known as the Al Quds Mosque, in Dyke Road, Brighton.
Sussex Police said that post-mortem tests indicated that Mrs Hashimalvi had died from natural causes.
The force added: “An investigation was launched into the initially unexplained death when paramedics alerted police after attending an address in Tredcroft Road on Wednesday evening (28 January).”
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Taylor, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “A 75-year-old man who has been helping us with our inquiries has now been released from custody with no further action.
“I would like to thank him especially for his co-operation during an extremely difficult time and extend our sympathy to him and his family for their loss.”
