Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked and left with a fractured skull as he celebrated his 18th birthday.

The victim, from Burgess Hill, had just left the Shoosh nightclub on Brighton seafront at about 3am on Saturday (31 January) when he was assaulted from behind and knocked to the ground on the ramp leading up to Kings Road, opposite the Thistle Brighton hotel.

He suffered a fractured skull and is currently being treated at Hurstwood Park neurological unit in Haywards Heath.

Detective Constable James Botting said: “The victim is in a stable condition in hospital but we urgently need to speak to anyone who saw what happened to him.

“The area around Kings Road and Kings Road Arches would have been very busy at the time so someone must have seen the attack.

“Please contact us with any information you have. It could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 513 of 01/02, call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
