A facelift for a children’s play area has moved one step closer thanks to a £32,870 grant.
The funds have been awarded to buy new equipment for Fishersgate Rec, in West Road, Fishersgate, by the Veolia Environmental Trust.
Claire Fletcher, who chairs the Friends of Fishersgate Rec, said: “There are approximately 500 children under the age of seven living within walking distance of the rec and this new fun area will provide plenty of play opportunities for them and others from the surrounding areas and schools.”
The Friends of Fishersgate Rec is one of five community projects in Sussex to receive grants worth almost £140,000 in the latest round of awards from the Veolia Environmental Trust. The total across the country is £1.4 million.
Veolia said: “The trust awards grants through the Landfill Communities Fund and since 1998 it has granted more than £2.6 million to 110 projects in Sussex.”
Paul Taylor, executive director of the trust, added: “We have been supporting community and environmental projects for over 17 years.
“During this time our grants have made a real difference to people’s lives and the environment.
“We are pleased to be helping these organisations make their projects happen and I look forward to seeing them start.”
