A greater proportion of primary school age children in Brighton and Hove have been offered places at their first preference school for this September.
Parents will be told this afternoon which school their child has been given a place, after submitting their first, second and third choices in January.
The total number of pupils offered their first preference school is up by 117 this year at 2509 or 87.8%, compared to 2392 or 82.5% in 2014-5.
The proportion of pupils offered one of their three preferred schools is also up at 95.9% from 94.2% last year.
This year’s preference figures (2015-6) are:
1st preferences allocated 2509 pupils or 87.8%
2nd preferences allocated 172 pupils or 6%
3rd preferences allocated 60 pupils or 2.1%
Directions (= no preference met) 117 or 4.1%
Last year’s preference figures (2014-5) were:
1st preferences allocated 2392 or 82.5%
2nd preferences allocated 237 or 8.2%
3rd preferences allocated 102 or 3.5%
Directions (= no preference met) 169 or 5.8%
Where the council has not been able to offer any of the three preferred schools, parents have been offered a place at the nearest school that has places available.
