An investigation has been launched into a fire at a fourth-floor flat in Hove this afternoon.

Crews from Preston Circus, Roedean and Hove, the Command Support Unit from Lewes and three Officers were mobilised to the address in Clarendon Road at 2:44pm.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and one main jet to tackle the fire which was located in the bedroom of the property.

South East Coast Ambulance and Sussex Police also attended. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

An enigmatic report. To flesh it out a bit, I was walking past and saw an Engine leave Conway Court at about 7 pm.

This is the block where – when delivering Greenleaf – I found a sign on a door which said, “the drug dealer no longer lives here”.

I spoke with one of the men who returned this evenin to clean up. Lots of water he said and the flat is now uninhabitable and badly damaged.

Without waiting for the major project works application to even be registered Mears and BHCC immediately started scaffolding Conway Court last week, installing a container site office within one half of the forecourt car park. Wire fencing enclosing them the whole of it.

I took a photo last week and wondered how the building could be accessed in the event of a fire, intending to ask the planning officer to include the fire service as a consultee…prescient or what.

Had the site office not been there, the turntable vehicle could have used the area to reach the balcony. As it was, this fireman told me, they used the emergency exit staircase.

It is wrong that Mears and BHCC did not put the logistics of situating their site office within the major application paperwork to allow the consultation process to bring matters like this to light. There is a line of mostly empty parking bays in Ellen Street where their site office would have been FINE and out of the way.

Bad omens….they mortally damaged a tree putting the site offic in, now there has been a fire 4 floors above it…..
