A man was seriously hurt when two cars and a cyclist crashed on the A23 in Brighton just before 5pm this afternoon (Monday 15 February).

Sussex Police said that a number of roads had been closed and the force urged drivers to avoid the area.

The crash happened in London Road, near the bottom of Carden Avenue.

The police said: “Just before 4.50pm on Monday 15 February two cars and a cyclist collided on the A23 London Road at Patcham, Brighton.

“Road closures were put in place and drivers are advised to avoid the area for the time being if at all possible.

“A man in one of the cars is believed to have sustained a serious injury but at this stage it is not assessed as life threatening.

“No further details are available at present.”

The Highways Agency said that the A23 was partially blocked in both directions, with very slow traffic. The agency added that there were queues to the A27 at Patcham and to the A270 Viaduct Road at Preston Circus.
