Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas has been re-elected as leader of the Green Party – this time in a job share with Jonathan Bartley, from London.
They take over as co-leaders from Natalie Bennett, who succeeded Caroline Lucas as party leader four years ago.
The result of the party’s leadership contest was announced at the party conference on Birmingham.
The co-leaders said that they would put forward policies aimed at redistributing power and wealth while pushing for a “one-off progressive pact with other parties”.
Dr Lucas is due to discuss a potential progressive alliance at a fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrat party conference in Brighton this month with Hove MP Petr Kyle and former Lib Dem Health Minister Norman Lamb.
The pair also want a second referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union once the exit terms have been agreed.
