A Brighton man has been arrested after a series of sex attacks in the town, Sussex Police said this afternoon (Thursday 8 September).

His arrest comes after an “efit” was published on Tuesday (6 September) with details of an assault almost two weeks earlier. The victims were two 16-year-old girls.

The force said today: “A 22-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of five counts of sexual assault through touching following a number of recent reports in the city.

“He has been released on bail until (Wednesday) 19 October pending further inquiries.”

Detectives want to hear from anyone who might have seen any of the reported assaults.

  • A 19-year-old woman was assaulted at a bus stop in Carden Avenue at about 10.25pm on Wednesday 17 August.
  • An 18-year-old woman was assaulted in Portfield Avenue on Monday 22 August.
  • Two 16-year-old girls were assaulted in Carden Avenue, near Darcey Drive, at about 10.45pm on Wednesday 24 August.
  • A 20-year-old woman was assaulted in Preston Drove at about 11.15pm on Thursday 25 August.

Earlier this week Detective Constable Melanie Wauchope said: “All of the victims have been left shaken by these assaults and I would ask any witnesses to get in touch.”

Witnesses are asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Hudson.
