Crash closes A23 on the edge of Brighton just before rush hour

A man has died after a crash on the edge of Brighton and Hove.

He was one of two people seriously injured in the crash in Saddlescombe Road near the corner of Devil’s Dyke Road, between Brighton and Hove and Poynings.

Police have not yet released the name of the 25-year-old, who comes from the Earlsfield and Southfields area of Wandsworth, in south London.

A second person was also hurt in the crash when a blue BMW car and a red Ford Transit van ran into each other at about 5am on Wednesday (12 October). Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was called out to help deal with the casualties.

Sussex Police said this morning (Friday 14 October): “A 25-year-old man from London SW18 who was critically injured following a collision between a van and a car near the junction of Saddlescombe Road and Devil’s Dyke Road, Brighton, on Wednesday has since sadly died in hospital.

“He has not yet been named. The coroner has been informed.”

Love and prayers with the family. Losing a loved one at such young age. He was my cousin. A very bright young lad with lots of potential and someone who loved and lived life to the fullest. Always made others smile. May he rest in peace and may Allah grant him peace and Jannah (Heaven). Love you bro.
