Jean Alexander, known to millions as Hilda Ogden in the long-running soap opera Coronation Street, has passed away aged 90.
The actress died in Southport today (Friday 14 October).
She played one half of the down-trodden, forever skint Ogdens from 1964-87.
Her on-screen husband Stan was played by Bernard Youens who was born in Hove and attended Connaught Road school.
He passed away in 1984. Ms Alexander continued in the soap after his death until her exit.
She later played Auntie Wainwright in Last of The Summer Wine.
