Brighton driver pays high price for ignoring ticket

A 66-year-old woman has been banned from the road after being caught drink driving along the A259 in Portslade.

Patricia Coke, 66, of Hyde Lane, Upper Beeding, was disqualified for 15 months after she was stopped in a Peugeot 309 by Sussex Police.

At Worthing Magistrates’ Court district judge Christopher James was told that she had 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Coke admitted drink driving and was fined £300 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.

She was also fined £100 after pleading guilty to driving without a valid licence, making £515 in total.

Coke was told that she would have to pass a driving test before she could legally drive again.

“…..after pleading guilty to driving without a valid licence”?

I would be interested to know what an ‘invalid’ licence was? I hope this isn’t from the Argus where we expect bad reporting because Brighton & Hove News has always been of a better standard.

Did she have a full licence but previously have it revoked for a similar offence? Did she only have a learner licence? Did she not have/never had a licence. I am quizicale.

Thanks, Terry. unforrunstely it wasn’t clear but the offence attracted a £100 fine. Sorry I don’t have any more detail on this occasion.
