False gun alarm shuts Brighton road
A report of a man waving a gun around sparked a police search and road closure tonight.
The incident started when someone called police at 8.21pm, saying a man had been seen armed with a handgun off Manor Road in Whitehawk.
Witnesses reported seeing several police cars and vans while the search was carried out.
A police spokeswoman said: “At 8.21pm, police were called to Manor Paddock in Brighton to a report of a male seen waving a handgun around. Officers attended, including armed officers, to deal with the incident.
“Extensive enquiries were carried out at the location to ensure ongoing public safety, which included a temporary road closure in the area.
“Those enquiries revealed that the initial information received was likely to be incorrect.
“No one was injured during the incident and no arrests made.”
