Firefighters from Preston Circus and Roedean in Brighton joined colleagues from Newhaven to tackle a smoker’s accidental fire in Peacehaven.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that when the fire was reported, at 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday 22 June), there were people believed to be inside the property in Collingwood Close.
The fire service said: “The fire was located on the ground floor. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire and everyone was accounted for.
“Crews ventilated the property and a fire investigation was carried out.”
At the same time another crew from Preston Circus was sent to Frederick Place, in Brighton, where they released two people from a lift.
Later, shortly before 11pm, firefighters from Hove rescued a young girl who was locked in the bathroom in Spencer Avenue, in Hangleton.
The fire service said: “Overnight East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to a number of false alarms.
“At 11.11pm Brighton firefighters were sent to Regency Square, in Brighton, due to a fire alarm sounding, which was a false alarm.
“At 9.50pm Hove firefighters were sent to Kingsway, in Hove, for a fire alarm sounding due to a system fault.
“At 3.14am this morning Roedean firefighters were sent to Eastern Road, in Brighton, after a fire alarm was accidentally activated.”
There were other false alarms around the county and fire chiefs urged people to help reduce the number of callouts to false alarms.
