Albion showed great pace and energy to overcome League 1 Southend at Roots Hall.
A Solly March brace and another from Glenn Murray, all in the first half, saw Albion return to the slick passing style we saw last season.
Izzy Brown, signed earlier in the day on a season-long loan from Chelsea, was involved as were a smattering of under-23 players such as James Tilley, Aaron Connolly, Tom Dallison and Jayson Molumby.
