The Albion lost on their first visit to Wembley since 1991 and have still never won a match at the national stadium.

Albion conceded goals right at the end of each half.

The Seagulls were under the kosh for most of the match but didn’t concede until Serge Aurier swept the ball home on 41 minutes although the effort looked more like a cross.

Albion had chances through Shane Duffy and Tomer Hemed and before the end Harry Kane hit the post for Spurs.

Son Heung-Min wrapped up the points for Spurs with a looping header from a Christian Eriksen free kick.

Bournemouth, Newcastle and Swansea also lost this evening, while West Brom picked up a point at Liverpool and West Ham drew at home to Arsenal.

The result leaves Albion in 13th place on 17 points from 17 games – three points above the drop zone.

Six points separate the teams in the bottom half of the table, from Southampton and Huddersfield on 18 points to Swansea on 12 at the bottom.

Next up Brighton host sixth-placed Burnley at the Amex on Saturday (16 December) followed by Watford – currently ninth – on Saturday 23 December.
