Hove car thief jailed after 130mph chase

A man suffered a minor injury in a mugging at knifepoint in the centre of Brighton.

Four men stole his iPhone 6s mobile phone and some money and left him with a scratch to his cheek after threatening him with a blade.

Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was mugged in central Brighton on Friday evening (9 February).

“The victim, a 23-year-old man, was walking down Trafalgar Street near Pelham Square at around 6.15pm when he was approached by four young men.

“They threatened him with a Stanley blade style knife and stole his iPhone 6s in rose gold and some cash.

“He was scratched on the cheek, causing slight injury.”

Detective Sergeant Julie Greenwood said: “This was a busy time in central Brighton and we are appealing to anyone who saw anything.

“The victim described the four men. One was black, around 23, tall, slim wearing black jeans, light blue hooded top and Nike Huarache trainers.

“One was white, around 23, 5ft 9in, skinny wearing a red duffle coat and grey tracksuit bottoms.

“One was mixed race, around 23, 6ft, with a tattoo on his left hand.

“The fourth one was mixed race, also about 23, wearing grey Nike tracksuit bottoms and a black puffa-style jacket.”

Sussex Police added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact police online, quoting serial 1168 of 09/02.

“Alternatively, you can visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555111.”
