Brighton gets an early spring clean

Rubbish cleared from Madeira Terraces

Two sets of volunteers helped give parts of Brighton an early spring clean over the weekend, with more than 100 bags of rubbish collected from two very different sites.

The Save Madeira Terraces group gave the area under the terraces a going-over, clearing rubbish and trimming the green wall on Saturday for their “Fabulous Freezingly February Clean-Up” – the latest in a series of clear-ups the group has organised.

And dog walkers Lee Juney and Amanada Wright, with the help of Brighton and Hove City Council ranger Garry Meyer, led a group of 15 volunteers picking rubbish from woodland next to Moulsecoomb Way – collecting a whopping 90 bags of trash.

Rubbish found included car wheels, a car seat, car bonnet, and enough carpet to furnish a small flat.

Volunteers working with the council’s Tidy Up Team have collected nearly 200 bags of litter from across the city this month, and a series of clearups have been organised on 3 and 4 March for the Great British Springclean.

They include:

March 3 – Stoneham Park – Great British Spring Clean, from 10am

March 3 – Three Cornered Copse – Great British Spring Clean litter pick from 10am

March 4 – Brighton & Hove Way Big Tidy Up – Stanmer Woods/Upper Lodges, 10am to 12 noon

March 4 – Preston Park –Tidy Up Team launch event, from 11am

It’s a shame something can’t be done about the crappy graffiti taggers around Brighton ruining peoples property.

Especially the lout with his girlfriend (we assume) acting as lookout who targets/sprays property in Upper Gloucester Road and roundabout, generally at 5.30am, will have to take photos next time we see him doing it. Scroats.

Never mind the very obnoxious toxic, probably carcinogenic fumes of the aerosol paint spray cans!
