‘Washed Out Festival’ – Day One: Friendly and relaxed atmosphere with terrific live music

‘WASHED OUT FESTIVAL’, BRIGHTON: DAY ONE 13.4.18

Firstly, congratulations to Patrick and his team at Apple Shampoo Events for organising such a great musical event here in Brighton.

‘Washed Out’ is a two day festival located in the centre of Brighton across six venues. The festival is a celebration of the modern punk, emo and hardcore scenes that are currently active within the UK and internationally. Washed Out Festival is rooted in Brighton’s underground, authentic and dynamic DIY live music community.

The venues participating on day one this year are The Quadrant and Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, with the addition of The Prince Albert, The Hope & Ruin, The Green Door Store and East Street Tap coming on board on day two (Saturday)

Tonight (Friday) was I suppose a warm up event for the real thing tomorrow, as there was a choice of ten acts across two venues in town and the Brighton & Hove News Music Team was lucky to see four of the bands, with two per venue.

Our options were:
STICKY MIKES FROG BAR:
Happy Accidents – https://goo.gl/3bRsff
itoldyouiwouldeatyou – https://goo.gl/okqTdG
Yr Poetry – https://goo.gl/M9ytCw
Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam – https://goo.gl/v4Rr47
Tim Loud – https://goo.gl/rQWo9Y
Freddy Fudd Pucker – https://goo.gl/S8S4V9

THE QUADRANT:
Cryw*nk – https://goo.gl/7TKTLL
Loa Loa – https://goo.gl/T6A949
Marigolds – https://goo.gl/313oXj
Talk Shop – https://talkshopmate.bandcamp.com/releases

We opted for Talk Shop and Marigolds at The Quadrant and itoldyouiwouldeatyou and Happy Accidents at Sticky Mike – and great choices they were too!

Talk Shop live at The Quadrant, Brighton 13.4.18

Talk Shop: The guys are a new four-piece Brighton combo made up of Lou Kellis, Lemar Teen, Jake Ross and Dee Scrace. They played loud enjoyable melodic modern day punk. Listen to them HERE.
Tonight they let lose half a dozen trax, which were: ‘Smart Fellas’, ‘Rude Dance’, ‘Grey Distance’, ‘(as yet unnamed slow one)’, ‘(as yet unnamed newest one)’, ‘Personal Best’.

Marigolds live at The Quadrant, Brighton 13.4.18

Marigolds: These young lads came all the way down from Norwich to perform as they absolutely love Brighton. They are Joe Maguire (guitar/vox), Davey Perkins (guitar/vox),
Tom Goulding (bass) and Owen Fuller (drums/vox) and they were a tad quieter than Talk Shop and also a great band to listen to live. They played: ‘Colourist’, ‘Short Shorts’, ‘Big Beat Manifesto’, ‘Surfer Girl’, ‘’(as yet unnamed song)’, ‘Big Stan’, ‘Chamomile’. Listen to them HERE.

itoldyouiwouldeatyou live at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Brighton 13.4.18

itoldyouiwouldeatyou: This band are from in and around London and are a loud seven-piece indie punk outfit, although tonight I only counted six members as it looked like Holly was missing. The other members are Joey (vocals), Ollie (bass), Josh (guitar), Alexei (guitar), Sean (drums) and Connor (Novation keyboard). Their enjoyable set tonight reads: ‘Earl King Whatever’, ‘Divine Violence’, ‘Off Brand’, ‘Young American’, ‘Get Terrified’. Listen to them HERE.

Happy Accidents live at Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Brighton 13.4.18

Happy Accidents: We were fortunate enough to have reviewed this noisy pop trio’s recent Brighton gig HERE and you may also spot a familiar name in that gig lineup. Tonight, the Happy Accidents were Rich (guitar/vocals), Neil (bass) and Phoebe (drums/vocals). Last time around they were joined by Dean as second guitarist. Their excellent set this evening was: ‘Wait It Out’, ‘Unwind’, ‘Leaving Parties Early’, ‘Float’, ‘Act Naturally’, ‘A Better Plan’, ‘Nunhead’, ‘Running’, ‘Text Me When You’re Home’. Listen to them HERE.

The fun scheduled for DAY TWO: SATURDAY 14/04/18 will feature this lot!
Check them out and come along for so fun!
