Brighton and Hove News commended at News Awards 2020

Brighton and Hove News has been commended at the News Awards 2020.

The site was shortlisted for the Independent Community Website of the Year Award, sponsored by Google News Initiative and the ICNN (Independent Community News Network).

The judges said: “A well-rounded content strategy appears to have paid off here.

“A good, solid local news proposition.”

The award was won by Birmingham Updates – and the Island Echo was highly commended.

Lyme Online, Dorset Biz News and the Lincolnite were all also commended by the judges.

The Guardian won the News Website of the Year category and the Telegraph won the Outstanding Use of Social Media Award.

The awards ceremony in London has been cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis.

Brighton and Hove News was set up in 2009 and is a locally owned community news website, with a presence on Facebook and Twitter @bhcitynews.

The website also employs the BBC-funded local democracy reporter for Brighton and Hove.

Bravo!! And thanks for doing it!

As print journalism fades so badly, especially given their ownership issues & overheads, etc., the emergence of local journalistic expertise in ventures like this are invaluable for helping make local accountability VISIBLE!!
