A 17-year-old boy on a motorbike suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Brighton yesterday afternoon (Saturday 14 August).

Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a BMW in Wilson Avenue, Brighton.

“Emergency services were called at 5.30pm on Saturday (14 August) to the incident involving a grey BMW X5 and a black Keeway motorcycle being ridden by a 17-year-old boy from Croydon.

“He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, including a life-threatening head injury.

“The car driver, a 42-year-old woman, was uninjured.

“The road was closed for several hours for investigation and recovery work.”

Sergeant Vicki Rees said: “We are investigating a serious collision.

“Both vehicles were travelling south when the collision occurred.

“We want to hear from anyone who witnessed it or has any dash cam or CCTV footage of the incident.

“Email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or ring 101 quoting Operation Planet.”

Moped is 50cc max with a max speed of 30mph. A bicycle (with gears) can be a moped if it has an electric motor capable of exceeding 16mph and go up to 30mph. After this speed, it becomes a (light) motorcycle
