A23 closed both ways after lorry and car crash

Crash closes A23 on the edge of Brighton just before rush hour

The A23 was closed in both directions after a lorry and car crashed this morning (Sunday 10 July).

The crash happened at about 5.15am and involved a DAF operated by Sorici Logistics, a freight company set up last year and run by a Romanian couple in their thirties from Kent.

Traffic jams are expected, with anyone who planned to use the road being urged to take a different route.

No official information was released about the condition of the drivers.

But Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision between a car and lorry on the A23 near Bolney around 5.15am on Sunday (10 July).

“The road is currently closed in both directions from Junction 11 (Pease Pottage) while police, fire and ambulance services attend the scene.

“It is likely the road is going to be closed in both directions for a significant time and it is not yet known when the road will re-open.

“Anyone who was planning to use the road is being asked to take an alternative route.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage of it is asked to report it to police by emailing it to collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or call 101, quoting Operation Riverhill.”
