Police pledge crackdown on noisy and speeding motorbikes

Sussex Police promised a crackdown on noisy and speeding motorbikes over the summer months.

The force is also asking people to take part in a survey as it seeks to work out where the worst trouble-spots are.

It said: “Operation Downsway is the Sussex Police response to concerns raised by local communities relating to driving and riding behaviours while also reducing collisions involving motorcyclists throughout the roads of Sussex.”

Sussex Police added: “Are noisy or speeding motorbikes a problem where you live?

“We want to know about the road safety issues that are impacting your community.

“You can help us by filling in this survey and telling us what’s happening on the roads in your local area.

“This information will help us build a picture of where we need to tackle road safety issues which will inform our summer road safety intensification, Operation Downsway.

“Every weekend between April and September officers from teams across the force will take part in the dedicated operation, providing a highly visible presence on the road network in Sussex and taking enforcement action where necessary.

“By providing education and enforcement to drivers, we aim to reduce the number of collisions and deaths on our roads.”

The Patcham motorcycles, for just a few minutes, at about 11pm have been a feature for many years. I don’t know whether they use Mill Road as a hill climb or are just accelerating hard up the A23. I’ve lived in the area for over 40 years and it’s been happening for most of that time whatever the time of year or weather.

There’s a chap on a motorbike lives in mileoak and you can hear the bloody thing a good minute before he get home! Not sure it warrants Police intervention but I do wonder about the well-being of his ears!!!

Oh yeah? Just like the ‘crackdown’ on the electric scooters? Are these things not visible to the police?

Synesthesia is not a common trait shared within traffic enforcement, unfortunately. Evidence is the most important aspect here, and this survey is a good idea on where to focus their efforts because, unfortunately, omnipotence is also another trait not commonly featured neither.

Noise cameras are available. they can be mobile and paid for from fines

I suspect that is the method they will go with, once they highlighted some areas to focus on with their survey and reports.

So what does this mean in real terms?

On their way to ‘Refs’ at the M&S filling station; either the one on Kingsway, or the one on the A23; Plod will have a quick decko for any Barry Sheen types…???

I’d much rather they spent their time, and my money, catching real criminals…

Sussex Police need to patrol LEWES ROAD, BRIGHTON opposite the B&Q store and the parade of shops in the evenings from around 6pm till the early hours of the morning and they will catch the anti-social motorbikes riding with excessively loud droning exhausts. This noise is disturbing the peace on a daily basis. They also ride through Hollingdean and race up DAVEY DRIVE, BRIGHTON. We have seen sports bikes with loud exhausts and motorcross bikes with no registration plates being ridden recklessly, they often ride them with no helmet or the passenger has no helmet. Residents are actively gathering evidence and passing it on to the authorities including the police so that the cuplrits are arrested. People have had enough. It is disturbing the peace.
