Two men have appeared in court charged with drugs offences after they were stopped and searched in Brighton.
Markel Brahasani, 23, of Buckingham Road, Brighton, appeared on a charge of having cocaine in Farm Road, Hove, with intent to supply on Good Friday (29 March).
Brahasani, previously of Holloway Road, in north London, also faced a charge of producing cannabis in Silverdale, near Stoke, in Staffordshire, in September 2021.
Ali Kaca, 28, of Farm Road, Hove, was charged with dealing cocaine, having cocaine with intent to supply, having cannabis and having an offensive weapon – an extendable baton – in a private place.
The two men appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (30 March) when they were remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Friday 26 April.
Sussex Police said this afternoon (Thursday 4 April): “Two men have been charged with drug offences following a stop search in Brighton.
“Officers who were patrolling the Brighton and Hove area carried out a section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search on a man who was acting suspiciously.
“He was found with class A drugs in his pockets which were then seized.
“A section 32 PACE search was then conducted at an address in Farm Road, Hove, where the suspect was seen to enter. More drugs and a police-style baton were found.
“Markel Brahasani, 23, of Buckingham Road, Brighton, was arrested and later charged with possession with intent to supply a class A drug.
“Ali Kaca, 28, of Farm Road, Hove, was arrested and later charged with possession with intent to supply a class A drug, supply of a class A drug, possession of a class B drug and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.
“They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before a court to be fixed on Friday 26 April for a plea hearing.”
