Brighton Festival is set to host a rare and compelling conversation between two leading voices of activism and progressive politics: acclaimed writer and thinker Rebecca Solnit and former Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas, at the Brighton Dome Concert Hall tomorrow – Bank Holiday Monday 26 May.
Solnit, celebrated for her influential works such as Hope in the Dark and Men Explain Things to Me, will discuss her new book No Straight Road Takes You There — a stirring collection of essays exploring the winding paths of social and political change.
In this latest work, Solnit weaves together reflections on the climate crisis, women’s rights, rising authoritarianism, and the complexities of modern masculinity. She argues passionately for the power of collective action, and the need to embrace the unpredictable nature of progress.
Her conversation with Lucas — the UK’s first Green Party MP and a long-standing advocate for climate justice, democracy, and human rights — promises to be both intellectually rich and emotionally resonant. Expect deep insights, poetic provocations, and a shared commitment to seeding hope in difficult times.
