Derek Jarman with Jordan: copyright and by kind permission of Jordan’s family

‘Jordan Uncovered: A Personal Photo Album of Previously Unseen Photographs’
1 July – 22 August 2025
10am – 10pm Monday – Sunday
Colony Room Green
London, W1B 4BS
Nearest tube: Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus

As we celebrate Jordan’s 70th birthday and mourn her passing, we revisit her iconoclastic life from childhood to international stardom with ‘Jordan Uncovered: A Personal Photo Album of Previously Unseen Photographs’, a unique and intimate exhibition at Colony Room Green.

Muse, model, manager, mentor and so much more… During the 1970s Jordan became a worldwide icon: “It’s like being in an art movement – someone has to start it.”

The legendary artist and filmmaker, Derek Jarman described her as the “first Sex Pistol”, which highlights her prominent role and influence in the punk movement. As punk’s most-fetishised poster girl, Jordan’s pivotal role in Vivienne Westwood’s and Malcolm McLaren’s riotous world was vital to the image of bands such as The Sex Pistols.

Jordan has been immortalised as a bleach-blonde-beehived, Cleopatra-eyed, diva of defiance, but there was far more to her influence than straightforward anarchic provocation. Rebellion was actually a by-product: (“I often described myself as a living work of art”), a need for personal expression and a militant desire to champion the underdog were at the crux of her unique perspective.

“People often refer to the name and the things that I wore as demonstrating bravery and shaking things up, but while I showed off to the best of my ability it wasn’t about bravery because I didn’t care what people thought.” – Jordan

‘Jordan Uncovered’ has been curated by Andrew James and Darren Coffield. The exhibition will be on display from 1 July at Colony Room Green, a recreation of Soho’s notorious Colony Room – the club once frequented by cultural icons David Bowie, Adam Ant, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Shane McGowan, Kate Moss, Lisa Stansfield and Joe Strummer – to name but a few. Colony Room Green can be found in the basement of Ziggy Green, the much-loved David Bowie-inspired restaurant from the Daisy Green Collection.

To coincide with the exhibition two limited edition prints of Jordan will be available to purchase with all proceeds being donated to Jordan’s favourite charity, Cats Protection: https://www.cats.org.uk/

‘Jordan Uncovered: A Personal Photo Album of Previously Unseen Photographs’ is at:
Colony Room Green from Tuesday 1st July to Friday 22nd August 2025.
Open daily 10am – 10pm.

Further reading on Colony Room Green:

Downstairs at Ziggy Green is Colony Room Green. Known affectionately as one of the “seediest spots in Britain” but also the Bohemian heart of Soho, The Colony Room Club was an infamous drinking den/small members club which ran from 1948 to 2008. It attracted celebrity artists and eccentrics of its day, including founder member Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud.

Curated by Darren Coffield, ex-club member, artist, and author of ‘Tales from the Colony Room’ – we have worked tirelessly to recreate the infamous Soho drinking den catering to the bohemian elite through an immersive art installation in the downstairs of Ziggy Green.

With no phones allowed and the only prerequisite for membership to not be boring (a rule instilled by Muriel Belcher, the original club proprietor), head down the staircase and step back in time. Sip on beer, house wine (with prices matching those of 2008) or an Espresso Martini – in memory of Dick Bradsell, the head barman at the club in the late 1990s (who created the now ubiquitous cocktail for Kate Moss) – all in the surrounds and iconic green hues of Colony Room Green.
