Man injured in Hove pub shooting

A man was injured after someone fired a gun into a Hove pub over the Easter weekend.

Armed police were deployed and three people have since been arrested for having a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The weapon was used at the Poets Ale and Smoke House pub, long formerly known as the Eclipse, in Montgomery Street, on the corner of St Patrick’s Road, Hove.

It was fired at about 10pm on Saturday (4 April) and the arrests were made over the next two days including in Stonery Road, Portslade, on Sunday (5 April).

Today (Thursday 9 April), Sussex Police said: “On Saturday 4 April at around 10pm, it was reported that a firearm had been discharged into a pub in Montgomery Street, Hove.

“A man in his thirties sustained a minor injury during the incident and officers, including an armed response, were deployed to the scene.

“Between Sunday 5 April and Monday 6 April, three people from Brighton, a man and a woman in their forties and a woman in her twenties, were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“All have been released on conditional bail as inquiries continue.”

Superintendent Petra Lazar said: “We recognise this incident will likely cause concern and want to reassure the community that an investigation remains under way.

“Officers are working closely with those affected as well as conducting a number of wider inquiries.

“If you believe you have footage or information that could help, it’s important that you come forward.”

Sussex Police added: “To make a report, you can contact police online or by calling 101, quoting reference 1250 of 04/04.”

Nothing wrong with that phrasing, my friend. Perfectly grammatical.

That Gin Distillery that was reported on the other day, just down the road, is probably thinking moving was a good plan!
