Friends and family of a man who died after being stabbed in a Brighton hostel at the weekend have paid tribute to him.
Tio Day, 37, also known as Marcus and Fletch, was one of two men stabbed in a fight in Moon’s Lodge, in Regency Square, in the early hours of Sunday (26 April).
Sussex Police said: “Early in the morning on Sunday 26 April, it was reported that a fight had broken out inside the address.
“Emergency services attended and located two men with serious knife injuries. Sadly, one of the men, identified as Tio Day, was pronounced deceased.
“A second man, in his thirties, received critical care and he has since been discharged from hospital.”
Tio, who was orphaned as a child, was remembered by his family as “precious, curious and full of love”.
His cousin affectionately called him “Tia Tia” and said that he “watched over her” and was “always gentle”.
She said: “He loved deeply, especially his brothers, who will carry this loss in their hearts forever, and a big part of them will always be missing.
“I will always remember the Tio that we knew as thoughtful, loving and full of wonder.”
She added: “Sleep tight big bro … I hope you’ve found peace. You will never be forgotten.”
Tio’s aunt also shared a tribute, saying: “My heart is full of ‘what ifs’ and ‘whys’ for such a beautiful young man.
“I will always remember your smile and your quiet, gentle nature. You will forever live in my heart.
“Sleep tight, my precious nephew. I know your mum has you now.”
Members of the community in Brighton have also paid tribute to Tio, describing him as “kind, intelligent and warm, with a smile that touched everyone”.

Sussex Police added: “On Tuesday (28 April), 26-year-old Daniel Bassett, of no fixed address, was charged with murder and attempted murder. This follows his arrest the previous day.”
Bassett was produced at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday 29 April) and remanded in custody.
He is next due to appear at Hove Crown Court tomorrow (Friday 1 May).
