A fire which destroyed a number of food waste bins being stored off Wilson Avenue won’t affect collections, the council says.
The bins were torched on Tuesday, sparking a huge blaze which sent plumes of dark smoke billowing across East Brighton.
Sussex Police launched an investigation into the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.
The bins were being kept in a storage area north of the Wilson Avenue recycling centre.
A spokesperson for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “The fire at the site used for bin storage has not impacted on our food waste collections.
“We are still assessing the extent of the damage at the site, and therefore the cost to the council.
“We’d strongly encourage anyone with any information about the fire to come forward.”

It can’t affect the bin service as it couldn’t be any worse so no one will notice anyway.
Think in Whitehawk it’s a good service.
I’ve no complaints.
Our main collections are usually quite good. It’s the paid for service, garden waste, which has consistently been the worst over the years,

Food waste collection has had no problems in my area either. Actually been good, and I was sceptical, considering how the bins have been.
