The MP for Hove and Portslade has left the cabinet as Andy Burnham takes over as Prime Minister from Sir Keir Starmer.
Peter Kyle joined the Labour government as Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology after the party won the general election two years ago.
Mr Kyle became Business and Trade Secretary last September but today (Monday 20 July) he said that he was stepping down from the post.
He announced his departure from the government as Mr Burnham started to appoint his cabinet.
The Press Association news agency wrote: “Andy Burnham purged the cabinet of loyalists of his predecessor Sir Keir Starmer.
“David Lammy, Rachel Reeves and Steve Reed were among the high-profile cabinet ministers to be shown the door by the new Prime Minister.”
Good riddance. Next stop being kicked out of parliament
At least he’ll have much more time to be a much better Friend of Israel, a country thousands of miles away, than he is of his actual constituents who live around him and voted for him…

He’ll be crying into his pillow tonight and sacking his overpuffed team of email responders tomorrow. i’ll bet he wishes he hadn’t burned his bridges in Hove. He never thought his PM dreams would end up in smoke thanks to the slip ups of a man who groomed him for greatness. It’s about this time that he thought he’d be moving up in the world, not down. Wonder if his US gym buddy will stand by him.
Will Kyle be spending more time with his former Labour Friends of Israel police paedo sting buddy Ivor Caplin whose case the police have gone all quiet about in our ever so open society?
Oh wow, maybe there is some hope that an Andy Burnham Labour Government will change things, he should restore the whip to Dianne Abbot.
But very interesting appointment of John Healy as Chancellor, a former housing Shaddow Minister, let’s hope rent caps come in.
On Kyle, those access to ministers for cash scandal recently printed in the Media, was not a surprise. God knows the damage already done.
Hopefully this is the end of the divisive politics of the last 10 years of so, it’s been toxic and relentless. Fingers crossed.
